About The Artist

Adam James Ikaika Holzgrove is among many things, a metal bonsai artist. Adam was born in Honolulu Hawaii, but shortly after, his family moved to Minnesota after an accident left him with 3rd degree burns over a large portion of his body. Because of the burn scars, doctors told his parents he would never walk. This was the first time someone tried to tell him his own limits. Now a former gymnast, wrestler, MMA fighter, arm wrestling champion, and pull-up world record contender, he still hears people talk about what he can and can’t do, and he still doesn’t listen.

Limitations are for those without the imagination to circumvent obstacles.

All I want to do is leave a story worth telling.

I’m the Guy

Describing myself is a difficult task, but I figure I’ve got a better shot at letting people see who I am through stories. Hopefully you can come to know me by how I reacted to the hands I’ve been dealt, both good and bad. Below are some of the things from my life that I believe convey who I am, but more importantly by their selection, who I’d like to be. Everyone has infinite stories to tell, but by choosing our stories, we choose ourselves.

As always,

Thank you for looking

I’m the guy

Who used to get dressed up fancy and test drive supercars while I was living in a retired ambulance. I would shower and get ready at anytime fitness because $10 a month is as cheap as showers get

I’m the guy

who keeps a bunch of one dollar bills in the glovebox because I made a decision to buy lemonade from every roadside lemonade stand I come across. It’s always money well spent.

I’m the guy

I’m the guy who bought the cheapest Maserati GranTourismo in the country at the time, and straight piped it. I loved it for two years, and then sold it for exactly what I paid for it

I’m the guy

who bought 200 American flags when I heard the cemetery wasn’t going to do the parade of flags due to the Covid-19 pandemic. I put around 70 of them up on the city beach for Memorial Day. I still put them up each year, but the original 200 are almost gone.

I’m the guy

who got 3rd degree burns over so much of my body at 8 months old that the doctors told my parents I would probably never walk. I’m 34 now, and I can do a backflip.

I’m the guy

who toured a house on Tuesday and moved in on Friday. When something’s right, it doesn’t make sense to wait.

I’m the guy

who spray painted “LEAD BY EXAMPLE” on the back of my jacket, and went to the George Floyd riots in Minneapolis. While I was there, I put out fires in the grocery store where I used to get my bread.
